We are dedicated to eliminating financial stress and changing financial trajectories by providing free financial coaching and affordable lending for residents of the Appalachian Highlands.
Many of our neighbors in Northeast Tennessee are part of the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population–earning above the Federal Poverty Level but still struggling with basic living costs. This includes about 1-in-2 households in Northeast Tennessee. Financial insecurity creates significant stress, impacting families and overall well-being. AOF is here to help eliminate financial stress and change financial trajectories for these Appalachian households.

Our Approach
Free, People-Centered Financial Coaching: We provide 100% free financial coaching services to community members. Our certified financial coaches offer one-on-one guidance and support tailored to individual needs and goals. We build authentic, long-term coaching relationships to help clients repay high-interest predatory loans, co-create and achieve financial goals, and reduce financial stress. This coaching is personalized and goal-driven, with ongoing support available for as long as needed. AOF embraces families with a level of genuineness and warmth that facilitates excellent working relationships.
Affordable Lending (Financial Freedom Fund): Beyond coaching, AOF offers affordable lending for eligible clients with low-or-no credit, specifically designed to support individuals who might otherwise face significant barriers to accessing affordable credit or be forced to rely on high-interest predatory loans. The core purpose of the FFF is to serve as a vehicle for AOF to offer accessible, non-predatory credit options as part of their broader strategy to build community wealth and help clients achieve financial stability.
